Pleated Tote v Get Carried Away Tote

So one of my readers (Beverly) emailed in and asked about the difference between the Pleated Tote and the Get Carried Away Tote so that she could pick one to use for school. Luckily I have both, so instead of just replying to her, I thought that I would share it with all of you.

The GCA is filled with my work laptop, a clipboard, a bag of random stuff, a shirt, packs of gum and a few other random things. The PT is filled with my laptop, two magazines, water bottle, small cosmetic with my GPS in it, wristlet filled with random stuff, my sunglass case and Turn Lock Wallet.

I dont think that this picture does the size difference any justice. The GCA is much bigger than the PT. GCA dimensions are 18.25 x 15.5 x 7.5 and the PT dimensions are 14.75 x 14 x5.25.

Here is the side by side view so that you can see how wide and tall they are.
I decided to take a picture in the mirror so you could get a better idea of the size when you have them on your shoulder.

In the end I think that the Pleated Tote is a better choice depending on how much stuff you carry. The Get Carried Away might be too big. What bag do you use for school or work?

  1. I like my Pleated Tote a lot, and it's a great size (I've used it as a carry-on for several trips) but I was thinking of getting a Villager for work/conferences (when all I need to carry is a notebook or two and my wallet, phone, and other small items)

  2. LOVE my pleated tote, use it for all kinds of occasions, it is in my opinion, the perfect size!

  3. I use my Pleated Tote when I'm in school to carry small notebooks and small text books. It's not always the best on busy days when you need to take your laptop too, but I love it still!

  4. I like the Pleated Tote... but I was wondering, is the Villager much bigger than the Pleated Tote? Or are they about the same?

  5. The Villager is about the same size. It is 16 x 12.25 x 4. So just a little taller, but not as wide.

  6. I have the Get Carried Away Tote and it is huge! I think it's too big for day to day school use, but great if you want a bag to pack for a weekend trip or day at the beach. I'm amazed at how much I can pack into it. There's many inside pockets, 2 that are plastic lined (great for water bottles, etc.)

  7. From the looks of the pictures, I would go with the Pleated Tote (which I also have in Cupcakes Pink, good choice!) It holds a lot yet is not too ginormous to take around, and has a lot of nice pockets. I think the Get Carried Away Tote looks far too big for my liking!

  8. A nice in- between size is the Vera bag. I use it for work everyday. I find the PT a but too small and the GCA way too big for daily use.

  9. And the older patterns in Vera are on sale for 49.99 now!

  10. Another vote for the Pleated Tote! I love mine, carry it to work every day, and can even fit my "out To Lunch" bag inside - so it's a nice substantial size. I even bought a second one, but didn't like the pattern in person (Paprika) so ended up returning it.

I also like the Charleston Tote for work, but it's not nearly as large inside.

  11. I just got a Carried Away tote in Peacock, a pattern I've always wanted. The size sounds similar to LL Bean tote bag I used as a diaper bag with my daughter. Since most of my diaper bags are pink I thought Peacock might be a fun color to use with a boy...it's still pretty girly but the blue & green are a bit of a concession to having a boy this time around:)

  12. Last time I checked VeraBradley.com posted the sizes of the bags... The difference between those two is very clear in its measurements.

  13. The Pleated Tote is my FAVORITE! I have a huge "Mary Poppins" purse all the time, and this one is just perfect! Holds my huge fat Daytimer planner, plus my sunglasses case, wallet, checkbook, GPS, keys, pen case, change purse, etc.

  14. Is there another name for the pleated tote? Seems none of the names are all that straight forward haha

  15. I love BOTH. I have physical limitations so it's hard on me to carry either of them. For traveling I use the GCA, for just short trips I use the PT....

I cannot wait for the PT to come back. I may faint when I see it in the store.....

  16. Right now I'm carrying a Campus Tote in Jazzy Blooms as a purse. It's a little big, but I can put my iPad, a book, files, notepads, etc. for work in there, too. I work at a college and then teach at a local university at night and I was using a Vera in Marina Paisley for my class stuff last spring and will probably do that in fall, too. At the time, I was using a Hipster in Sun Valley as my purse, so I could just put it in the Vera with my class and work stuff and carry only one bag into work every day.

  17. My favorite is the Go Round tote. I like the extra pockets on the outside of the bag to organize smaller things like gum, chapstick, and keys. The Pleated Tote looks to be a similar size, but not as many pockets.
